Grading Permits must be applied for online via eTrakit system.

Information

Grading permits shall be required for grading, filling, excavation or land alteration of any kind on any site one acre or more in size during the entire construction process, where such activity is not part of an approved preliminary plat or large scale development.  There are four main phases to the grading permit process; Application, review and approval, routine inspections and a site final to close out the permit.  If approved, a copy of the grading permit cover page shall be posted at or near the street right-of-way line and shall be clearly visible from the street.

Before Submitting

Before submitting your application, please be sure to submit ALL of the required documents as shown on the checklist in the application and Art. 1100.7 (D) of the Subdivision Code.  An incomplete application will not be processed.

  1. When do I need to apply for a Grading Permit?

  2. What documents are required for submission?
    • Please read SC 1100.7(D) and review the Grading Permit Application.  A list of items required is included in both areas.  Please note that only complete applications will be processed, so be sure that you double check the items required.
  3. When can I start work?
    • Once you have received conformation that your application has been processed and approved, you may start work given that there are no special conditions required.  A copy of the grading permit cover page shall be posted at or near the street right of way line and shall be clearly visible from the street.
  4. How does the permit need to be closed out?
    • Routine inspections maybe required for your project.  In order to closeout (final) the project a final inspection maybe required.  Please contact the Engineering Department for project specific information.
