Bentonville, AR…Bentonville Parks & Recreation is pleased to announce the start of renovations at Phillips Park located at 3108 SE J Street. The $17,140 million renovation will completely transform the existing 50-acre park into a premier baseball complex for the region, thereby expanding park usage for bigger tournaments and events. With turf infields, high-quality lights, concession area, designated umpire space, dedicated maintenance facility, ample parking spaces, and wheelchair accessibility, the new, state-of-the-art design by Crafton Tull is simple and functional. The first phase of construction includes seven new fields and minor tweaks to Field 1.
Renovating Phillips Park is part of a $266 million bond for capital projects and refinancing initiative that voters approved in April 2021. Extending the 1-cent sales tax, originally approved in 2003 to repay the bonds, makes the project doable. The work will also be funded through impact and capacity fees as well as a total of $3 million in financial support from Visit Bentonville. The park is named after Harlon Phillips, a prominent Bentonville grocer in the 1960s and 1970s, who originally donated the land for what became Field 1.
The public is cordially invited to attend the Phillips Park groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, September 21, 5pm, by Field 1. Nabholz Construction will officially begin field transformation the week of September 25. The anticipated timeline for completion is spring 2025.
