[ARCHIVED] COVID-19 Bentonville Parks and Recreation Response and Action Plan

Capture

In an effort to keep our citizens and participants safe, Bentonville Parks and Recreation will be taking the following measures regarding COVID-19.

Update ad of May 8, 2020:

Since March, many of Bentonville Parks and Recreation Facilities have been closed or limited because of the Covid-19 Pandemic. As the Arkansas Department of Health begins to announcements the lifting of restrictions on public facilities, we are excited to begin slowly and cautiously reopening select recreation amenities in our parks system.

May 15           Sports Fields (Memorial Park, Philips Park and Citizens Park) reopen for public use. Sports team practices are permitted on a first come – first serve basis.

May 18           Bentonville Community Center reopens. Fitness Center and Lap Pool are available for daily use by members.

May 22           Tennis Complexes (Citizens Park and Memorial Park) will reopen at 50% capacity. This includes restrooms at each facility.

May 26           Restrooms at Dave Peel Park and Lawrence Plaza reopen for public use.

May 28           Bark Park reopens. This includes restrooms facilities.

Our team continues to work with local health officials and follows the directives from Governor Hutchinson and the Arkansas Department of Health. We await directives on recreation swimming pools / splash parks, Summer Camps and Team sports. As soon as announcements are made on these activities, we can announce openings for additional facilities.

Update ad of May 1, 2020:

We are happy to announce a modified reopening of the Bentonville Community Center on Monday, May 18 to members only.

The Fitness Center, Fitness Classes, and Lap Swimming will resume for members on Monday, May 18. In order to meet Arkansas State Health Department guidelines, timed sessions will be offered for the fitness center, classes, and swimming to prevent long waits and allow for adequate social distancing. Members can register for sessions online once your membership is activated.

The Kids Center, Community Rooms, Basketball Gymnasium, Recreational Swim, and our Lounges will remain closed. We expect to be able to open these amenities soon. Please refer to our website for further detailed information regarding our facility operation during this reopening.

The Downtown Activity Center will also open Monday, May 18 for public business from Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm. Our Fitness Studios, Restrooms, Locker Rooms, Conference Room, and Bike Rentals will not open or resume programming at this time.

Please refer to our Community Center Page for information regarding safety measures and protocols we are implementing upon our reopening.

Update as of March 13, 2020:

Please note Park playgrounds, restrooms, tennis courts, basketball courts, volleyball courts, baseball and softball fields, skate park, and dog parks are closed. Parks and trails are open but, you are encouraged to use social distancing guidelines.

These decisions are the result of careful consideration of public gatherings and precautionary measures shared by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Arkansas State Governor Asa Hutchinson, the World Health Organization (WHO), and our first and foremost focus of participant safety and exposure to the virus at large public gatherings occurring at our programs, events, and facilities.

The Bentonville Community Center and Downtown Activity Center will begin a modified reopening on Monday, May 18.

The Memorial Park Glow Run has been cancelled.

All programming has been suspended.

All youth sports programming has been suspended.

All other classes, programs, and activities have been suspended.

We will monitor the situation closely and continue to communicate with further information as it becomes available.
