Note: The City of Bentonville will test tornado sirens on the second Friday of each month, weather permitting. During the test the sirens will sound once. There may be a time where additional testing will be conducted to ensure all storm sirens are operational.
The specific guidelines for sounding sirens vary by jurisdiction. The City of Bentonville uses a "wailing" tone for tornado sirens. During severe weather, the activation of the tornado warning system means the National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for the city or there is a confirmed tornado sighting. All citizens should take protective shelter at this time. The sound will be a wail which will last 3 minutes. The tornado sirens may be activated multiple times as the threat approaches and depending on how far out the known threat is.
The City of Bentonville would like to remind the citizens of Bentonville that this warning system is designed to alert people that are outside. People inside of a building might not hear the tornado sirens and should use a radio, television or weather alert radio as means of monitoring weather conditions.
