Bentonville, AR...Bentonville Public Library (BPL) announces the winning entry for the book sorter naming contest.
Patrons feeding the new Tech Logic 9-bin book sorter will no longer be subject to the awkwardness of a nameless entity. After 114 submissions from the public, a panel of librarians narrowing entries down to 11, and 588 patrons voting in person, BPL is excited to announce the new name for the latest edition to the BPL team is: Bookie Monster.
Bookie Monster, submitted by Kelsie Lane and Christine Salley received 83 votes. In second place with 80 votes was ChewBOOKa, and B.E.A.S.T. came in third with 76 votes, followed closely by B.O.B. and R2Book2.
When asked why Lane chose Bookie Monster, she said, “It just popped into my head; Cookie Monster eats cookies, Bookie Monster eats books!” Lane is also one of BPL’s teen volunteers, involved in the Teen Book Club, and will help lead the Tween Book Club.
Salley shared with us, “My youngest just learned to read, so we’ve been going to the library more often, at least twice a week. It’s just so magical up there and getting to name the new book sorter makes it even more so!”
“Bookie Monster is a fantastic name for the new sorter. It reminds us of one of the most beloved characters in pop culture, and it aptly describes the voraciousness of the machine, “ said Courtney Fitzgerald, Senior Librarian at BPL and primary coordinator for the purchase and installment of the Tech Logic automated materials handling (AMH) RFID system.
When asked about its new name, Bookie Moster replied, “Me want more books!”
Bookie Monster will receive a BPL staff nametag at a ceremony at a later date.
