A Street Promenade Soft Opening
Bentonville, AR……. Bentonville Parks and Recreation is pleased to formally announce a soft opening of A Street Promenade – a designated, pedestrian-only linear park stretching from Northeast Third Street to Southeast Second Street. With the fourth and final section completed, the new amenity will have a meaningful impact on the downtown experience, economy, and improved pedestrian safety. The transformational space includes public art sculptures, gathering areas, outdoor seating, integrated landscaping with flowers, trees, natural stone, pavers, and more.
Two art sculptures were recently installed by OZ Art NWA in the newest section of the promenade near the 21C Museum Hotel. Known as Exuberant Pink, Ernest and Ruth by artist Hank Willis Thomas is made of rolled steel. Infinite Slow Skies created by artist Linda Nguyen Lopez is made from painted bronze and native Arkansas stone.
Design Workshop was instrumental in creating the vision for A Street Promenade, along with Ecological Design Group (EDG). Flintco Construction managed construction oversight. Members of the Walton family generously funded the project, with an additional million-dollar donation from Visit Bentonville and the Advertising & Promotion Commission.
Bentonville Parks and Recreation will collaborate with Downtown Bentonville Inc. (DBI) to activate A Street with weekly entertainment, quality-of-life programming, and enhancing amenities for the enjoyment of Bentonville residents and visitors alike. As shared by Dana Schlagenhaft, DBI Executive Director, “So much hard work has gone into making A Street Promenade a reality, and it’s exciting to see it come to life as a space designed for people. Gathering is at the heart of what makes a community feel connected and rooted, and this promenade will give our residents and visitors a place to come together, support local business, and enjoy all that makes Downtown Bentonville special.” Details coming soon regarding an official grand opening and ribbon-cutting celebration.
