[ARCHIVED] Celebrate National Friends of the Library Week with Friends of Bentonville Public Library

NFOLW

Bentonville, Arkansas - October 15th-21st marks National Friends of the Library Week, a time to honor and recognize the invaluable work of volunteers who support and enhance the services offered by public libraries. Friends of the Bentonville Library (FOL) is a nonprofit organization comprised of dedicated volunteers who share a common passion for promoting literacy, lifelong learning, and access to information for all community members.

Join us to celebrate National Friends of the Library Week on Wednesday October 18th, when Bentonville Mayor, Stephanie Orman will present a proclamation honoring the work of the Friends of the Bentonville Library and a brief program will follow. This event will be at 10:00 am in the Sunroom of Bentonville Public Library. Light refreshments will be served.

Friends President, Judy Marquess, encourages attendees to bring a friend to help the group meet its goal of 150 new members celebrating the 150th anniversary of the City of Bentonville. This goal was launched at the Fall Book Sale and 67 new members have joined to date! Becoming a Friends of the Library member is a great way to support the group’s mission. To apply for a FOL membership, attend this event, visit the Read It Again Book Store inside the library or apply online.

In 2023, FOL has sponsored various initiatives to support the Bentonville Public Library, including book clubs, author events, the summer reading program, the annual GeekCon festival, plus the learning gardens and seed library projects. The Friends group also contributed $50,000 to the Bentonville Library Foundation’s capital campaign to support the library’s expansion project. Through advocacy, fundraising, and programming, FOL helps to ensure that the library remains a vibrant and essential resource for people of all ages and backgrounds.

In addition to membership, FOL is always looking for volunteers to help with various tasks, such as working in the bookstore, processing donations, sorting books, and working at large sales. If you are interested in volunteering, please complete a volunteer application, and return it to the bookstore or the library front desk.
