Bentonville, AR… The City of Bentonville has been named a Volunteer Community of the Year for 2023. This honor was achieved due to the generosity of a combined 2,577 volunteers who served 44,167 hours.
The annual distinction recognizes municipalities that address their greatest needs through the engagement of citizens and is sponsored by the Arkansas Municipal League, EngageAR, and the governor’s office. A panel of judges of distinguished citizens from across the state meets to review each nomination and select the award recipients.
The award was presented at the 2024 Arkansas Municipal League’s Winter Conference.
Key initiatives that contributed to this recognition include the efforts of volunteers involved in the Bentonville 150th celebration, parks and recreation programs, service to city boards, the invaluable support at the Bentonville Public Library, and active participation in the Mayor’s Community and Youth Council.
To celebrate the achievement, the Arkansas Department of Transportation will place signage along Bentonville’s entrance announcing it as a Volunteer Community of the Year.
Mayor Stephanie Orman says, “I extend my heartfelt gratitude to each and every volunteer who played a crucial role in achieving this honor. Your selfless contributions have enriched our community and set a shining example for others to follow.”
