[ARCHIVED] Bentonville Fire Department Accepting Burn Permits

Bentonville, AR...To assist Bentonville residents with storm debris clean-up, the City of Bentonville will extend the adjustment of the zoning requirements to the current burn ordinance for limited applications.  In order for citizens to burn, the following requirements must be met. 

Beginning: July 26th and ending Friday, August 4, 2024, at 5:00 pm, the Bentonville Fire Department will be accepting burn permits for the following qualifications:

  1. A burn permit must be obtained from the Bentonville Fire Department prior to burning.
  2. The phone number to obtain a burn permit is (479) 271-3151.
  3. Information needed:
    1. Name of resident
    2. Contact phone number.
    3. Address and location of burn.
    4. Type and amount of debris.
  4. Burn permits shall be issued each day from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.
  5. Burn permits shall be renewed each day by phone call to (479) 271-3151.
  6. Burn permits will not be given if the county is under a burn ban.
  7. Wind speed cannot exceed 10 mph. 
  8. If smell or suspicion of natural gas is in the area of permit, do not burn. Call Black Hills Energy at (888) 890-5554 and report the location and condition. 
  9. All primary utilities at the permit location must be fully operational at the time of request. 
  10. Debris eligible for burning will be trees or shrubs damaged during the storm.
  11. Building materials, milled lumber, plastics, cardboard or furnishings are not permitted.
  12. Debris will be limited to 18 inches in diameter or less. 
  13. Burn Piles:
    1. Debris piles up to 3 feet in diameter and 2 feet in height must be at least 25 feet away from all structures, combustible materials, utilities, and roadways.
    2. Debris piles up to 10 feet in diameter and 5 feet in height must be at least 50 feet away from all structures, combustible materials, utilities, and roadways.
    3. Debris piles greater than 10 feet in diameter and 5 feet in height do not qualify and will not be permitted.
    4. The fire must be attended until it is extinguished.
    5. An extinguishing method must be immediately available to include:
  • Dirt, sand, garden hose, fire extinguisher, or other source that has the capability to extinguish the fire.
    1. Fire must be extinguished by nightfall.
    2. Fire Department representatives will be doing daily, random inspections to assist with compliance and to provide additional guidance.
    3. The Bentonville Fire Department will reserve the right to cancel burn permits based upon compliance, complaints, location, and weather conditions.

The Bentonville Fire Department encourages all residents to exercise due caution when burning debris.
