Groundbreaking Event Signals Start of Construction at Dave Peel Park

Bentonville, AR……. In preparation for construction at Dave Peel Park, Bentonville Parks and Recreation is announcing temporary closure of the park as of Monday, September 22. Work is scheduled to begin immediately in this section of the Quilt of Parks. This project began as an effort to improve existing park space and connectivity in Downtown Bentonville by adding beautiful new green spaces and gardens, stitching them together in a cohesive, pedestrian-friendly way.

Dave Peel Park is currently a two-acre mini park, located one block east of the Bentonville Square at 206 E. Central Avenue. Formerly known as Jaycees Park, Dave Peel Park was later renamed after the first elected mayor of Bentonville. The park serves as a local favorite for families with young children and for special events.

The redesigned park will provide a sense of place downtown by housing native gardens, an amphitheater and pavilion, public art, and an event lawn. The new layout builds upon the play value of the current space by adding a modern and secure playground destination, restrooms, and enhanced plaza area. It will connect directly with A Street Promenade, a pedestrian-only walkway that ties areas together with outdoor dining, retail, event and entertainment space.

Partners instrumental in design and construction for the $12.2 million project are Design Workshop and Flintco Construction. Project funding, in part, comes from Parks and Recreation bond funds – the refinancing initiative that voters approved in April 2021. The balance of funding was provided by the Advertising & Promotion Commission and Walton Family Foundation. The public is cordially invited to a groundbreaking event for Dave Peel Park at 11:00am on Monday, September 22.
