City of Bentonville Youth Council
Mayor Stephanie Orman established the Bentonville Youth Council in 2021 to help high school students better understand how local government works—and how their voices can shape the future of our city.
This year-long program is open to students in grades 9–11 who live within Bentonville’s corporate city limits. Each month, members meet with a different city department to explore how Bentonville operates, from public safety to parks, planning, and beyond. The program builds civic awareness, connects students directly with city leadership, and encourages hands-on engagement in community life.
Meeting Details
Youth Council meets on the third Friday of each month from 6:30–7:30 a.m. Mayor Orman selected this time to make participation accessible for students with full after-school schedules. Sessions are held in person at various city facilities throughout the year.
How to Apply
Participation is by recommendation from school principals. Students interested in serving on the Youth Council should contact their principal to be considered for nomination. The Mayor’s Office can confirm residency eligibility for students who live within Bentonville’s corporate city limits (note: this is different from mailing address boundaries).
Who Should Apply
The Mayor is seeking students who are:
Curious about how city government operates and serves residents
Eager to learn, engage, and represent Bentonville’s next generation of leaders
Committed to attending all sessions and contributing to a respectful, collaborative environment
Because the program follows a calendar-year schedule, only students entering grades 9–11 are eligible.
Recognition
Students who complete the program with full attendance will receive a Certificate of Recognition, presented by Mayor Orman at the first December City Council meeting. Emergency absences may be excused with prior approval.
